About Academic Excellence

We are a small team of passionate educators helping motivated students master Math, Reading, and standardized tests. Our programs use level-based small groups, rigorous curriculum, and instructors who care about lasting skills—not shortcuts.

Founded in 2018, we have helped over 650 students improve their scores and build lasting confidence in core academic skills. Instruction is in person in Plymouth, with pathways for K–12 math and K–8 literacy, advanced math preparation, and ACT/SAT/PSAT prep.

Our approach

  • Level-based small groups matched to each student’s readiness
  • Rigorous curriculum aligned with school and exam pathways
  • Emphasis on understanding and problem-solving, not just tricks
  • Homework, quizzes, and assessments that track real progress
  • In-person classes at Plymouth locations (St. Barnabas & PCC)
  • Transparent pricing shown at enrollment, with installment options on select programs

Frequently asked questions

What courses do you offer?

MathWiz — K–12 mathematics with placement by grade and skill level (foundations through algebra and beyond). ReadingWiz — K–8 literacy covering reading and writing pathways matched to the student. MathWiz + ReadingWiz Bundle — both core programs (MathWiz K–12 and ReadingWiz K–8) with bundle pricing; open to grades K–8. MathElite (UMTYMP Prep) — advanced prep for selective math programs and entrance exams (through April). TestingWiz ACT/SAT/PSAT Prep — content and strategy for those exams (Saturdays through April). See Courses for schedules and details.

Where and how are classes held?

Classes are in person in Plymouth at St. Barnabas Lutheran Church and Plymouth Community Center (PCC), depending on the day and program. MathWiz and ReadingWiz offer Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday options; MathElite and TestingWiz follow the schedules listed on each course page. Online Zoom classes and class recordings are not part of our standard offering.

How does placement work for MathWiz and ReadingWiz?

MathWiz (K–12) and ReadingWiz (K–8) are single programs tailored to the student—not fixed grade tracks within those bands. When you enroll, we use the grade and profile on your child’s account (and current skill level) to place them in the right content pathway, with level-based groups and regular practice at home. ReadingWiz and the MathWiz + ReadingWiz Bundle are open to grades K–8.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

Full rules are in our Registration Terms. In short: if Academic Excellence cancels a course (for example, insufficient enrollment), you receive a full refund of tuition paid for that course. If you cancel more than two weeks before the course start date, a full refund applies only for documented relocation outside Minnesota or a documented medical condition that prevents participation; other cancellations in that period are tuition paid minus a $100 administrative fee. Within two weeks of the start date, or after the course has started, cancellations are non-refundable. Payment processor fees are non-refundable. Tuition is not reduced or refunded for absences, illness, vacations, or similar circumstances.

What if my child misses a class?

Please notify site staff and the instructor if your child will be absent. Upon request, we may offer a make-up for a missed class—make-ups are not guaranteed and depend on instructor availability, capacity, and scheduling. A make-up is available only if you notify us of the absence, we approve it in advance, and it is completed within three weeks of the original class date. Make-ups may use a different instructor, location, or time. Missed make-ups are not eligible for refunds, credits, or additional make-ups. Full details are in the Registration Terms.

How do payments and installments work?

Tuition is due as shown at online checkout, or as confirmed for offline methods (check, cash, Venmo, Zelle, and similar). Select programs offer installment plans; if you choose installments, you agree to pay the full plan total on the schedule presented at enrollment. Offline payment requests stay pending until we confirm payment.

Can schedules or classrooms change?

Yes. We may modify schedules, dates, instructors, classrooms, curriculum, or locations when needed for enrollment, staffing, facilities, weather, or other operational reasons, and we will notify the email on your account of material changes as soon as practicable. Such changes are not grounds for a refund if instructional hours and overall educational objectives are substantially maintained (see Registration Terms).
